England recorded a friendly win over Australia on Friday evening. Thus, the English had a good rehearsal for their European Championship qualifying match against Italy next Tuesday.
Gareth Southgate chose nine players from the English Premier League, namely Fikayo Tomori (Milan) and captain Jordan Henderson, who now makes his living in Saudi Arabia. England dominated the first half without creating many chances. Only Ollie Watkins got so close in the first half, but he hit the post.
In the second half, the Aston Villa striker continued to score. Jack Grealish controlled a high cross, shot on target and Watkins slotted the ball home at the far post. England did not face any serious problems after that and eventually won 1-0.
There’s a nice game on the England schedule on Tuesday, when Italy are the opponents. Southgate’s team leads the group with thirteen points. Italy shares second place with Ukraine and North Macedonia, but has played one less match in the group.
