    Heavy forest fires are raging on the Greek tourist island of Kos, especially around the town of Kardamena. Residents and tourists have been evacuated and are being housed in a stadium and schools.

    The island is a popular holiday destination among the Dutch. number She wrote that the travel organization TUI cancelled the flight of dozens of Dutch people who were supposed to leave for Kos on Tuesday and stay in Kardamena.

    Two large forest fires are also raging on the northern Greek island of Chios. About 150 firefighters are battling the blaze there with three helicopters and seven firefighting planes. Five firefighters were injured. Police have arrested a 63-year-old man on suspicion of arson. The seaside resort of Metohi has been evacuated.

    “Dangerous” summer.

    Dozens of fires broke out in Greece over the weekend. This included two blazes near Athens. A 45-year-old man died of a heart attack while trying to escape the fire in Stamata. Houses and vehicles were also set ablaze.

    The fire brigade said Monday that the fires around Athens were under control. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis warned Monday that the country was facing a “dangerous” summer due to the risk of wildfires.
