A server at Bern University of Applied Sciences is affected by a data protection vulnerability. Personal data of approximately 9,600 course participants is stored on the server. The University of Applied Sciences immediately blocked access to the server and notified those affected.

So far, there is no evidence of misuse of data by outsiders, the Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH) wrote in a statement on Tuesday. This is not very sensitive data, so the extent of the damage is limited.

The Bahrain Financial Harbor also announced that data from people who participated in communications training and examinations conducted by the Ministry of Health between 2011 and 2024 is being stored on the server.

The data includes, among other things, name information, BFH abbreviations, BFH email addresses and, in some cases, personal contact details such as phone number, date of birth, gender and private email address.

A group of people also had passwords automatically generated by the software, which were never active or available to people.

The server is closed

Bern University of Applied Sciences took immediate action and blocked access to the server. The system was also scanned to ensure there were no security risks and the integrity of the system was restored.

Those affected have been notified by email or post. The University of Applied Sciences asked those affected to pay special attention to phishing attempts in the near future. The support team helps those affected with questions.

According to its own information, the Bern University of Applied Sciences is working hard to fully clarify the reasons. According to the statement, the Foundation deeply regrets this incident.
