“Where did the remote go?”: Many TV fans have probably asked themselves this question. But there is a simple alternative: the smartphone.

Dortmund – Television is constantly changing. Device resolution is improving, and streaming services have struggled to carve out a permanent place in living rooms. Part of this change is also the cause of many family conflicts: the remote control has become less important.

high chip.de It is now possible to control almost all TVs not with the classic remote control, but with a smartphone app. This means that endless arguments over the remote control and lengthy searches are a thing of the past.

One app that can connect to almost any TV is the Amazon Fire TV app, available for Android and iOS. According to the information received from this free application allows chip.dein conjunction with the “Amazon Fire TV” product, to control all TV devices within the Amazon world.

It also says that using the Amazon Fire TV app as a remote control is only possible if the TV and smartphone are connected to the same WiFi network. If so, then the application is ready to use.

The user interface is very simple, which makes it much easier to use. Basic functions such as arrow keys, OK button and Home button are supplemented only by Alexa voice control and a keyboard for searching for movies and series (read all the digital news on RUHR24 here).

However, the big drawback is that it can only be used while streaming via “Amazon Fire TV Stick/Cube”. An exception to this is controlling the “normal” TV program or turning the device on and off as a user option.

Alternative to Amazon: smartphone as a remote control

Amazon is not the only provider in this space. TV manufacturers Samsung (“Samsung Smart Things”), LG (“LG-TV Plus”) and Philips (“Philips TV Remote”) each also offer their own app for the TV in question. All these apps can be installed and used on both Android and iOS.

The apps differ only slightly in terms of functionality. Since, unlike the Amazon Fire TV app, they are responsible for operating the entire TV, they have the same capabilities as a traditional remote control. This means that the app can be used as a complete replacement for the classic remote control, eliminating the need for a physical remote control.

Some apps also have additional functionality so you can adjust the color tone or transfer images from your smartphone to your TV. Therefore, it is possible that classic remote controls will become a thing of the past in the future. Written by Felix Groen
