China denounced the joint statement of G7 leaders who berated Beijing on a number of issues as flagrant interference in the country’s internal affairs and urged the group to stop defaming China.

The Chinese Embassy in London said on Monday it was deeply dismayed and strongly opposed to references to Xinjiang, Hong Kong and Taiwan that distorted the facts of the situation and exposed the “evil intentions of some countries such as the United States.”

G7 leaders on Sunday accused China of human rights in the Muslim-majority region of Xinjiang, called on Hong Kong to maintain a high degree of autonomy and stressed the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait — in general. Way. Sensitive issues for Beijing.

The embassy said that as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread and the global economy slows, the international community needs the unity and cooperation of all countries rather than “intermittent” power politics that divides.

She added that China is a peace-loving country and advocates cooperation, but also has important points.

“We should not interfere in China’s internal affairs, China’s reputation should not be slandered, and China’s interests should not be infringed,” she added.

“We will resolutely defend our national sovereignty, security and development interests, and resolutely fight against all kinds of injustices and abuses imposed on China.”

The Taiwanese government welcomed the G7 statement and said the island claimed by China would be a “force for good” and would continue to seek more international support.

White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said Sunday’s G7 statement was an important step forward for the group as leaders united around the need to “confront and compete” with China on challenges ranging from safeguarding democracy to the technology race.

The Chinese embassy said the G7 should make more efforts to strengthen international cooperation instead of artificially creating confrontations and friction.

“We urge the United States and other G7 members to respect the facts, understand the situation, stop defaming China, stop interfering in China’s internal affairs, and stop harming China’s interests.”

The embassy also said that the investigation into the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic should not be politicized, after the Group of Seven called for a full and thorough investigation into the origin of the coronavirus in China in the same statement.

The embassy added that a joint expert group on the virus between China and the World Health Organization is conducting independent research and following the procedures of the World Health Organization.

“Politicians in the United States and other countries ignore facts and science, openly question and deny the conclusions of the JEG report, and make unreasonable accusations against China.”
