Chaos at British airports after a technical glitch may “continue for days” | outside

The problems that arose on Monday due to a technical glitch in air traffic control in the UK may “continue for several days”. Thousands of travelers heading to Great Britain may also face long delays on Tuesday and later in the week.

Due to problems with the National Air Traffic Service (NATS), more than 500 flights were canceled on Monday. About 9 percent of more than 3,000 flights that were supposed to land in the United Kingdom on Monday were cancelled, according to the BBC. Air traffic from Schiphol and Eindhoven was also affected.

The disruption came at a bad time: Due to a holiday in parts of the UK, many people were traveling by plane.

Travelers should also monitor the website for arrival and departure times on Tuesday, Britain’s Heathrow, Gatwick and London Luton airports reported online. The Schiphol website warned about this on Monday evening, but only one of dozens of flights to London on Tuesday was cancelled.

NATS reported Monday afternoon that the cause of the problem had been found. What exactly went wrong was not shared by the authority with the outside world.
