India and the Netherlands celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations this year. On this occasion, a special banner was unveiled to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
To celebrate the strong political, economic and commercial ties, a large number of events and activities are planned throughout the year in a wide range of areas of cooperation, including water, agriculture, innovation, energy, climate and culture. The Netherlands has donated 3,000 fresh tulips to India as a symbol of friendship, which have been planted in the gardens of Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan.
Relations between India and Holland
India and Holland established diplomatic relations in 1947. Since then, the two countries have developed strong political, economic and trade relations and a lot of sectoral cooperation.

After Mauritius and Singapore, the Netherlands was India’s third largest investor in the 2019-20 financial year, with inflows of $6.5 billion in foreign direct investment. With $1.23 billion in Overseas Direct Investment (ODI) from India in the 2019-20 fiscal year, the Netherlands was the fourth highest destination for overseas direct investment from India. The Netherlands was also the fourth largest ODI destination in the 2020-2021 fiscal year (until January 2021), with investments of $909.9 million.
In the fiscal year 2020-21 (April-December), bilateral trade reached 6.55 billion US dollars, Indian exports to Holland amounted to 4.33 billion US dollars and Indian imports from Holland were 2.22 billion US dollars. There are more than 200 Dutch companies in India. There are also more than 200 Indian companies in the Netherlands, including all the major IT companies.
