Cool Your Home: Bottle Trick Ensures Fast Cooling
If the apartment turns into an oven in the summer, the quality of life suffers greatly. If you do not have the money to buy an expensive air conditioning system, you can at least temporarily use a simple trick: a bottle of ice that you can make yourself as a room cooler.
This is how the summer life hack works:
- Take a large PET bottle (1.5 or 2 liters).
- Fill the bottle about two-thirds full with water.
- Place the bottle in the refrigerator and wait until its contents are completely frozen.
- Place the frozen bottle at the highest point in the room, such as a cabinet or shelf.
- Bonus: Place the bottle in front of a fan to better distribute the cool air throughout the room.

The summer trick is much cheaper than expensive air conditioners and very easy to implement. Plus, the bottle can be moved from room to room if you decide to change rooms.

Despite some positive points, bottle life hacks can quickly reach their limits. The cooling capacity of a single PET bottle is of course very limited – the effect is hardly noticeable, especially in large rooms (more life hacks in RUHR24).
In addition, it is only a temporary solution as the ice melts completely relatively quickly. Also, the life hack is not particularly effective due to the electricity used by the ice chamber and fan. In situations where there are many people in one room, the body heat emitted can quickly exceed the cooling effect.
