Four astronauts left the United States for the International Space Station. They are the first space explorers to be flown with a missile that has already been used on such a flight. The launch of the Falcon 9 from commercial space company SpaceX was successful.

The crew consisted of two Americans, a Japanese and a French. Thomas Pesquet is the first astronaut from the European Space Agency (ESA) to travel in a space capsule from SpaceX to the International Space Station. The journey takes about 24 hours.

Elon Musk’s space company is bringing astronauts to the International Space Station for the third time. It uses the same missile and capsule that were used in the previous mission. Costs can be greatly reduced by reusing this equipment.

This cost-cutting process was also referenced on the license plates of the Tesla cars that transported astronauts. It contained the words “recycle”, “reuse” and “reduce”. The astronaut mission takes about six months. They will conduct scientific experiments at an altitude of hundreds of kilometers above the surface of the earth.
