New functions for all (almost) iPhones!

On Monday, September 20, Apple will release the new iOS 15 software for the iPhone. Older models such as the iPhone 6S (2015) or the first generation iPhone SE (2016) can also be updated to the new operating system.

iOS 15 brings many new functions and detailed improvements. You should definitely give them a try!

    new globe

Apple’s answer to the classic Google Earth: If you zoom out further into the Maps app, you can now see the Earth as a globe. Displays details such as deserts, forests, and oceans.

When navigating, the Maps app shows more information, for example turn lanes, bus lanes, or intermediate lines. Map texture also looks more detailed in iOS 15 than in previous versions. However, it is clear that not all German cities are set up accordingly – new, highly detailed views of 3D buildings have so far been available only in a few places like San Francisco, New York or London.

    One hand browser

Anyone using a large iPhone model has so far struggled to reach the address bar in Safari when holding the device with one hand. The solution comes with iOS 15: the typing field in the Internet address moves to the bottom of the screen.

Different open tabs can also be accessed more easily in iOS 15: if you click to the left or right of the address bar, Safari will switch from one tab to another. You can also use the tab button at the bottom of the screen to get an overview of all active tabs. Tabs can now also be grouped here together, which syncs across all devices in use.

    Finally, the picture details

So far, the Photos app has not been able to display any information about recordings that have exceeded the place and time of the recording. This changes with iOS 15: If you scroll up an image here, additional detailed information such as file name, cell phone model used, and camera settings will be displayed.

Automatic reviews, which your iPhone collects from your photos and videos, have a new look in iOS 15. They should be authored more intelligently and presented in a more consistent way, and also have animated maps.

    Recognizing and transcribing texts

With the new Live Text function, for example, printed or handwritten texts can be recognized and reused. For example, you can copy words from text and paste them into a document or email. Or you can copy a phone number from the newspaper and then paste it into the phone app.

The live text function can be activated, for example, in saved photos, in live camera preview or in screenshots. To do this, click on the circular icon with lines of text displayed at the bottom right.

    Browse anonymously

If you turn on the so-called private relay (Settings → Private Username → iCloud), the data transmitted during browsing is encrypted and transmitted through two intermediate stations – relays. This obscures the user’s location, IP address, and Internet activities. This is to prevent advertisers from being able to create a detailed user profile.

The private paging function enables anonymous browsing and is still in beta state

However, if you want to use the service, you need a subscription to Apple’s iCloud service (now called iCloud+). In addition, private paging only works when you are connected to the Internet using the Safari browser.

    FaceTime Invitations

If you want to meet other people for a FaceTime video call, you can use iOS 15 to send a link to the meeting room. The link can be given a name and can be sent, for example, by email, SMS or Messenger message.

Sending links should be especially interesting when Apple launches the announced but delayed SharePlay functionality for FaceTime. In the future, it will be possible to listen to music together or watch movies that are played on the devices of all participants at the same time. It is not yet known when SharePlay will be ready.

    Message Filter

Focus function extends existing Do Not Disturb function. While Do Not Disturb mutes all messages on iPhone, focus can be used to select different life situations in which some messages, calls, etc. are displayed, while others are left out. In the settings, for example, the filters can be set for driving, fitness training or playing.

The people who are allowed to send messages even though the focus filter is activated can be selected individually

You can specify how the iPhone handles messages for each focus. You can also specify who is allowed to hack a message even though the filter is activated. Depending on the time, location or activity, focus filters can be triggered automatically.

    New clothes for Memojis

The popular gimmick is updated with custom emojis, called memojis. Figures can now be outfitted with clothes that can be adapted to different colours.

    teaser picture

Memojis in iOS 15 can be designed with T-shirts, t-shirts, blouses or dresses

There are also new glasses and aids such as cochlear implants, oxygen tubes or head protection to adapt Memojis.
