    White House security adviser Jake Sullivan met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi over the weekend. Reuters reported this based on American sources. Thus, it seems that the world’s two largest economies have taken another step towards improving relations.

    The meeting between Sullivan and Wang is another in a series of political meetings between US and Chinese representatives, which could lay the groundwork for a meeting between US President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping later this year. In May this year, Sullivan and Wang met in Vienna.

    Biden disappointed

    Biden expressed his disappointment that Xi missed the G20 summit in India, but expressed his hope to meet his Chinese counterpart. The last time the two presidents met was on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali in 2022. The two leaders may speak during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, which will be organized in San Francisco in November.

    US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of State Janet Yellen also traveled to China this year to maintain communications between the two countries. This was necessary because the downing of a Chinese spy balloon over the United States caused internal tensions.
