After years of preparation, the time has finally come: the tram line between Oethoorn and Zuid. This concerns the extension of tram 25.

An Amsterdammer who took the train south this morning expected it to be “very exciting.” His expectations were met. “Very special,” he said when he got off at Uithoorn. “Lots of green lawns and stuff.”

    win win

“A nice addition,” said tram driver Gunther Oms. “People who had to take the bus from the South Station can now drive from the South Station to the center of Yithorn in one go. So I think this is profitable for a lot of people.”

Three more stations have now been added. The tram has been extended for years. The extension was originally scheduled to be completed in 2022, but the project has been delayed by two years. A double-decker tram also came off the track during testing. The reason is not yet clear, which is why, as a precaution, only a few trams run in the summer. If it is very crowded, the number of trams per hour can be increased.

Although some Uithoorn residents were disappointed by the reduced number of buses now running, they responded with great enthusiasm. They don't expect many Amsterdammers to come by tram. “Probably not. Because there's not much to do here.”

The ceremonial opening took place yesterday. At that time, passengers could ride the tram for a free test drive. As of today, the tram has been permanently included in the timetable. The tram runs six times an hour during rush hour, five times an hour during the day and four times an hour in the evening.
