    Singer songwriter Diane Warren explains

    February 16, 2021 12:20 PM

Legendary songwriter Diane Warren revealed that Aerosmith I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing was supposed to be performed by a woman.

Diane Warren was asked to write a soundtrack for the movie Disaster From 1998. The songwriter has several blockbuster songs in her name, such as Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now by Starship, If I Can Turn Back Time by Cher and When I See You Smile by Bad English. In a confrontation Disaster I don’t want to lose a thing, she wrote, and it’s about cherishing every moment you spend with another person.

    Inspiration – inspiration

Diane Warren found inspiration for this song after hearing an interview with singer Barbara Streisand and actor James Brolin, in which he mentioned that when his wife Barbara was away from him, he missed her even while he was asleep. Warren wrote the words “I don’t want to miss anything” and I think that’s a good feeling to express in the song, as the movie is about the imminent destruction of everything on Earth.

    Celine Dion, U2 from Aerosmith

When Warren wrote the song, I thought someone like Celine Dion would sing it, but it happened differently. The 12-year-old daughter of Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler played the role in the movie. U2 was originally asked to perform the song for the movie – Aerosmith’s idea only came after Liv Tyler was chosen. “I managed to see the end of the movie. I went back and wrote the song and never thought Aerosmith would do it in a million years,” she told Rolling Stone. “I actually thought a singer would do that, but he’s a lot stronger with Steven Tyler. He was just so weak on a song that really worked.”

    Record

Warren remembers so well that she went to practice the song with singer Steven Tyler. “I remember being at the Sunset Marquis Hotel and sitting at the piano with Stephen teaching him the song. I had chills all over my body because I heard the song come to life with his voice and knew what it would be” the songwriter. “It was a great experience.” According to Warren, the lyrics match Steven Tyler perfectly: “It makes her more attractive. That’s what women don’t usually hear from their boyfriends, right? The singer … I don’t know, it’s not the same.”

    No regrets about the cover

Didn’t Aerosmith prefer to write the song herself? Guitarist Joe Perry explains in an interview with Classic Rock in 2002, “We were on the road, so they took us to the movie and said, ‘Here’s the song, this is where it fits in the movie, you can do it like you want’. ” The song was finished in Within three days. ”We would have liked more time to have a chance to write it, but it was perfect timing. People loved it and I don’t think people care much who wrote it. ”The song debuted at # 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1998 and is also the # 1 hit song in the US so far.
