Arnaud Kamminga and Caspar Corbu put up a great battle in the 100m breaststroke during the limited swimming events in Rotterdam. Kammenga won in a time of 59.26 seconds. This was below the limit (59.49) for participation in the Games, a limit he had already broken in Budapest in October.
Kammenga got his revenge in the 200m breaststroke on Saturday when he was bested by Corbo. US-born Corbo has now conceded 0.17 seconds to Kammenga. He had also previously met the requirements to participate in the Games in one of the World Cup competitions.
No new World Cup entrants or contenders for the Games presented themselves in Rotterdam for the so-called Rotterdam Qualifying Meet. In the 50-meter freestyle, no one joined Kenzo Simons, who had already reached the Olympic limit in April. Tess Schouten won the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1.06.31. She had also swum within the time limit for the Paris Games in April. Imani De Jong won the 400 meters with a time of 4.14.42 seconds, well above the Olympic requirements. Valerie Van Roon was unable to win a ticket to the World Championships in the 50-meter freestyle. To do this, she had to be faster than Marit Steenburgen and Kim Bush in the sprint distance. Although Van Roon remained below the World Cup limit (25.04) with a time of 24.94, her rivals were already faster in April.
Steenbergen and Busch have already broken the stricter OS limit (24.70). Van Roon will have another chance to get a ticket to Paris in April in Eindhoven. Among the Dutch participants in the final, Steenbergen was the fastest with a time of 24.82 seconds.
