With Liberty Media being the owner of Formula 1, the sport finally gained a foothold in the United States. Fans seem to be embracing the sport and there are now three races in the country. However, there are also fans who focus only on the docuseries and don’t quite know what exactly the sport entails.
Open-hearted fans
In a conversation with Kimmel, Ricciardo explained that fans from the United States react a little differently than fans in Europe. ‘I’ve noticed that they’re definitely not shy about saying, ‘I like you.’ Or telling me which driver they like!’ According to “The Honey Badger,” this can sometimes lead to funny situations. “I think they want to know if this is a good choice or not, so like or dislike.”
Actor or contestant?
Before the release of Drive To Survive, Riccardo was still able to walk the streets of the US, but that’s now a bit less easy. “It’s funny because these days people often come up to me and say, ‘You were great on the show.’ “So my response is ‘Do they know I race or do they think I’m an actor?’ I look at them and say ‘Thanks’ but I’m a little unsure… Do they really know what I do? However, Riccardo can’t blame these fans, because A lot of people go, “It’s funny, but it’s really evolved tremendously.” I try to remind them, but I think sometimes they don’t really understand it.
