The ISU still awarded the relay win to the Dutch short track athletes

The ISU still awarded the relay win to the Dutch short track athletes

Dutch short track skaters still took victory in the women’s relay during the second World Cup competition in Montreal. After a protest by the Dutch team and a comprehensive study of the photos, the International Skating Union (ISU) decided that the Dutch team, with Selma Bootsma, Jara van Kerkhove, Michele Velsboer and Zandra Velsboer, crossed the line first.

The short relay final in Canada last Sunday was very chaotic with all four teams falling. After that, South Korea won ahead of the Netherlands and the United States. “Unfortunately, the competition results and medal ceremony were conducted based on an incorrect recording of the number of laps completed by each team,” the ISU noted. The Korean team that was declared the winner had completed only 26 of the 27 laps at the time of the alleged finish.

The Skating Federation regrets the error and apologizes for it, especially to the participating teams. According to the Implementation Support Unit, procedures have been reviewed to ensure that these types of complex situations are handled properly in the future.
