Last night, the Major League Soccer Players Association announced the salaries of all Major League Soccer players. Who else but Lionel Messi (Inter Miami) tops the world rankings? Also in the top ten are Lorenzo Insigne, Xherdan Shaqiri and Christian Benteke.

Messi, who left Paris Saint-Germain for Inter Miami last summer, is the highest paid in the American League with a guaranteed fee of $20.4 million (about 19.4 million euros), which is a league record. This only concerns Messi’s annual salary.

Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas previously told Spanish newspaper El País that Messi’s total compensation, including a share of his MLS deal with Apple TV, is more than $50 million.

Messi’s guaranteed salary is the highest in MLS history. He is better than Lorenzo Insigne (Toronto FC). The Italian striker ranks second in the rankings with $15.4 million (14.6 million euros).

Xherdan Shaqiri (Chicago Fire/7.7 million euros), Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez (LA Galaxy/7 million euros) and Federico Bernardeschi (Toronto/6 million euros) complete the top five. Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, the other two new arrivals by name. And fame at Inter Miami, can count on a salary of 1.775 million (1.7 million euros) and 1.25 million dollars (1.2 million euros), respectively, according to the American League Players Association.

Goalkeeper Martin Paes (FC Dallas), who was previously under contract with Utrecht, earns an annual salary of $337,500, or more than €318,000. Kelvin Leerdam (LA Galaxy), a former Feyenoord and Vitesse player, earns slightly less than Paes annually: more than €316,000.
