“If you look at all the reactions to my statements, I don’t think it was an intelligent statement on my part in retrospect,” Wolff admitted. “I think I’m a lot like Nicky, who donated his prizes for a free car wash.”

He was referring to the story of Niki Lauda who died in 2019. The three-time world champion, compatriot Wolff, gave all his trophies to the car wash in exchange for free car washes for life. “You won’t see many trophies in my house,” Wolf continued.

“What I’m trying to say is that, in my opinion, it’s especially important who is doing the best at the moment. The best person in the best car wins the World Cup and I definitely appreciate that.”
