Emma Ostrogel gave up after the first part of the heptathlon at the European Athletics Championships in Munich. The bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics fell in the 100-meter hurdles Wednesday morning.
Oosterwegel decided after the fall not to play for the rest of the tournament. In the penultimate hurdle, the 24-year-old athlete lost her balance and fell.
“That never happened,” said the inconsolable Oosterwegel to NOS. In the autumn time, the athlete was on his way to a good time in the first part of the heptathlon. “It is not yet clear to me that it is really over.”
In the same heat, nineteen-year-old European debutant Sophie Docter ran a time of 13.81 seconds. Anouk Vetter ran the fourth fastest in another round (13.37). Vetter was a little slower than Belgium’s Navissatu Thiam, the frontrunner for gold (13.34).
Angela and Smidt through the 400m hurdles
Angela Ramsey and Nick Smedt qualified for the semi-finals in the 400-meter hurdles. Angela marked the second time in his series (49.51). Smedt also participated for the second time in his series with 50.06, to automatically qualify for the semi-finals on Thursday.
The European Championships in Athletics for Hammer Thrower Denzel Commentina has ended. The 28-year-old athlete did not qualify for the hammer throw final. Cominentia, who trains and lives in the United States, did not exceed 68.89 metres, to finish last in his qualifying group.
