Mickelson and other golfers challenge the PGA Tour suspension system

Mickelson and other golfers challenge the PGA Tour suspension system

Richard Powell, August 4, 2022

Leading winners Phil Mickelson and Bryson Dechambeau, along with nine other players, have filed a lawsuit against the organization of the PGA Tour. Golfers, who have all moved on to the controversial LIV series, want their PGA Tour suspension lifted. They are claiming, among other things, entry into the FedEx Cup playoffs, the lucrative “candy” of the season on the PGA Tour for which some participating golfers have already qualified.

The new LIV Golf Invitational Series is controversial because the tournaments it covers are funded by investors from Saudi Arabia. Because of human rights violations in that country, golfers who opt for big money are under a lot of criticism. Six-time winner Mickelson from the United States is said to have received around $200 million for his alteration. This week, it was reported that fellow countryman Tiger Woods was turned down $700-800 million to also play in the LIV series.

Transformers are no longer welcome on the PGA Tour. Organizers of the DP World Tour (formerly European Tour) decided in June to fine and suspend golfers who compete in the LIV Series from three tournaments for £100,000. Some of them went to court.
