The fourth season of the documentary series Drive to Survive ranked #1 in 33 countries on the Netflix streaming service. Despite criticism from some drivers, the series appears to have been well received by viewers.
The series was launched in 2019 and was an instant hit. It was a behind-the-scenes look at the new Formula 1 teams and drivers and showed a different side of the sport. Formula 1 has gained immense popularity, especially in the United States, thanks to this series. The drivers’ biggest criticism is that it’s basically story-created and that sometimes this is very far from reality.

Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffey said the new season was in high demand when the Las Vegas race was announced: “I’m pleased to announce, and I think Netflix is thrilled too, that Drive to Survive will be released in 33 countries. It’s number one.” The intense title battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen was already exciting from a sporting point of view, and the 2021 season also appears to have been a successful one on the silver screen, despite the absence of the world champion. “I think there are many aspects that made Formula 1 so popular, but this [Drive to Survive] It certainly contributes to that.”
The world champion does not participate
The Dutch champion previously indicated that he no longer wanted to participate in Netflix documentaries. He has the support of several other drivers and Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali so he wants to speak to the Dutchman to see if there is a way he can appear in the final season. The Italian agrees with the world champion that the series should not be far from reality.
