Atlantic storm season has just begun and in just over a week we’ve already reached the number two name on our list of storm names. Storm Barra will cause severe storms in Ireland and the United Kingdom on Tuesday and Wednesday. In the Netherlands, we got a sneak peek of the storm.

After Storm Arwen, the British Isles can once again prepare for severe weather. In very short order, Storm Barra has gained ground over the Atlantic and will reach the west coast of Ireland on Tuesday morning. The Irish Meteorological Service has issued a red code for coastal areas due to high winds and high waves. Average winds are up to 9 and sometimes 10 Beaufort! Short-term winds of up to 130 km/h are also likely. Over the sea, the winds could increase further and could become a very severe storm, 11 Beaufort.

On the coast, high winds push the waves up to 10-15 meters in height. In addition to the wind, the Barra storm also brings a lot of rain. In the mountainous landscapes of Ireland, Scotland and England, precipitation takes on a wintry character and can turn white in the region. Lower parts of the country have to prepare for flooding due to heavy rains.

    Inconvenience due to bad weather

Because of the inclement weather, the Irish and the British have to take into account power outages and problems on the roads. Flights have been canceled and schools closed as a precaution. It was also over a week ago when Storm Arwen passed. Because of the damage from that storm, homes are still without electricity.
