Aafke van Leeuwen, Boy Vogelzang, Ecco van der Veer and Anne van der Brugge qualified for the World Games in Birmingham (USA). All four jiu jitsuka have fulfilled the qualification requirements set by the International Federation. Genevieve Bogers was placed on reserve in the women’s -57kg weight class.

The World Games, the second largest multi-sport event in the world after the Olympics, will be held in Birmingham (USA) from July 7-17, 2022. At the World Games you will find sports and sports disciplines that you will not encounter at the Olympics.

The Dutch national team will be represented by four athletes during the Jiu-Jitsu Championship (15/16 July). The boy Vogelzang, winner of the 2017 World Games, appeared with a time of -77 kg. The European Champion can provide a unique performance by winning the main Jiu-Jitsu Championship in two different weight divisions. Triple world champion Aafke van Leeuwen is also taking part in Birmingham. Just like Vogelzang, the -70kg Jiu-Jitsu won the gold at the European Jiu-Jitsu Championships at Maintal in 2021.

Eko van der Veer, a silver medalist in both the European Championships and the World Jiu-Jitsu Championships this year, entered the tatami mat at -62kg. Curious how he experienced those successes? In JBN magazine, we looked back at his successful year with a TeamNL athlete. The Dutch team is complemented by Anne van der Bruges. Van der Brugge has already won three World Cup medals among seniors in her career, including gold in 2018 and silver in Abu Dhabi last November.
