The United States won no fewer than thirty medals in the 25-meter pool in Abu Dhabi: nine gold, nine silver, and twelve bronze. Canada ranked second on the basis of seven gold medals for a total of fifteen, above Italy (sixteen medals, five of which are gold). In the previous world championship short course, three years ago in Hangzhou, China, the Netherlands finished with eleven medals. Three of these were at the expense of the newly retired Fimki Heemskerk.

Kromowidjojo (31) played a significant role in the Dutch success in what may be her last tournament as a swimmer. The original Groningen earned six medals from Abu Dhabi. She previously extended her world title in 50 Butterflies and had a gold-medal share for the mixed relay team in a 4×50 change. In addition, she has earned a silver (4×50 freestyle mixed) and bronze (4×50 women’s change) with the relay teams.

Kromovidjogo brought her total medal count in the short-cycle world championships to 28 in Abu Dhabi: 14 gold, eight silver and four bronze. In doing so she replaced the Hungarian Katinka Hoszów as the most successful woman. Only American swimmer Ryan Lochte won more medals at the World Cup in the 25-meter (38) pool. Kromo is now going on vacation, using the holiday season to think about her future. She wants to decide “with the feeling” about whether to continue until the 2024 Games in Paris or stop just like Heemskerk and her fiancé Ferry Weertman.

Arno Kamminga, also part of the “golden” relay team in a 4×50 change, took silver in the School 200. The men’s team finished third in the 4×50 freestyle.
