Susan Scholting also won the 1000m at the World Cup in Debrecen on Sunday. The 24-year-old short track star won the gold in Hungary at all individual distances this weekend. In the men’s race there was a bronze for Isaac de Lat in the kilometer.

Apparently Schulting was the strongest in the 1,000m final. South Korean Olympic champion Choi Min-jeong finished second with a time of three tenths. Bronze went to Poland’s Natalia Maliszewska.

Xandra Velzeboer fell a short distance from the podium. The twenty-year-old Dutchman crossed the line 0.037 seconds after Maliszewska.

In the World Cup standings in the 1000 metres, leader Scholting has a big advantage over second seed Christine Santos of the United States. Velzeboer is in third place.

Scholting already made a big impression in Debrecen on Saturday, winning both the 500 and 1,500 metres. The Olympic 1,000m champion has racked up a total of five individual wins at the World Cup this season.

De Lat 3rd in the 1000m race

Among the men, De Lat won his second World Cup medal this season. The 27-year-old Friesian finished third in the final 1000m fight behind South Korea’s Hwang Dae-hyun and Canadian Pascal Dion and is now certain to enter the Olympics.

Three weeks ago, De Lat finished second in the kilometer at the World Cup finals in Nagoya, Japan. Earlier this week, he was stranded in Debrecen in the quarter-finals of the 500m and did not start in the 1500m.

Jens van ‘t Wout finished fourth in the 1000m in the semi-final, meaning he was referred to Final B. He placed first in it.
