When news emerged that Andretti Autosport might take over Sauber, Colton Herta was also quickly mentioned. The IndyCar driver could switch to Formula 1 fairly easily at the time, as he has a contract with Andretti. Herta adds RACER.com He was free to choose.

After the US Grand Prix, it was reported that the deal had failed and so Hertha’s chances in Formula 1 were suddenly a thing of the past. The 21-year-old driver notes that he was never sure he would make the switch.

“It will be my decision whether I want to go or stay. But it takes a lot to get me out of IndyCar, because that’s what I grew up with. I wasn’t growing up with Formula 1. In fact, I didn’t start following Formula 1 until I was maybe 12 or 13 years old. And I’ve been watching IndyCar from the time I can remember. It took a lot to run to Europe.” said the IndyCar driver.

    Maybe something for the future

So Hertha will not become Valtteri Bottas’ teammate next year, but we may see him on the Formula 1 grid in the future. For now, he’s very happy with how things are going at IndyCar. “There are so many different things I want to do in racing. But IndyCar, that’s what gave me my love of racing. And yes, it takes a lot to get me away from it, especially given the position I am in right now. I am able to fight for the championship and win races.”
