Godoka Marhinde Verkerk was already knocked out in the first round on Saturday at the European Championships in Prague. Carla Brodan of Croatia beat the former European and world champion in a weight class up to 78 kg hard-won. There was also a quick landing of Roy Meyer.
Verkirk has not played in competitions for months due to the Corona crisis and a shoulder injury, but is back now. In the same class, starter Natascha Ausma was also ready quickly. The 24-year-old Friesian lost at Epon to Russian Alexandra Papentseva. Newcomer Simeon Katharina also made only one show in Prague. After saying goodbye, the judo player from The Hague lost in the second round (Ebon) to the European 100 kg champion, Aman Adamian.
The heavy Jur Spijkers defeated Marius Fizel of Slovakia at Ibon. In his European Championship debut, he will face Ukrainian Jakiyev Shumu in the second round. Jisper Smink (-90 kg) lost in the first round at Waza Ari to Azerbaijan, Muhammad Ali Mahdijiev.
The European Championship also ended in disappointment for Judo Roy Mayer. The citizen of Breda lost, after saying goodbye in the first round, in his debut against Georgian Levani Matiaashvili. Meyer is fighting a fierce battle with Henk Gruel for a single ticket in the 100 kg-plus class for the Olympic Games. A puppy is missing in Prague due to Corona infection.
Substitute Your Speakers will meet Ukrainian Jakiv Shumu later on Saturday in the second round. In the weight category up to 90 kg, world champion Noel Van Tende begins in the second round against Czech Jerry Peter.
