1.1TB of unreleased projects and games have been leaked

Early last weekend, a group of hackers posted stolen internal Disney documents online. In addition to emails and chats, this also included material about previously unknown projects. The company has now confirmed the incident.

Huge Leak Appears on the Dark Web

The data package, which first appeared on a dark web forum last Friday, is 1.1 terabytes in size. The accompanying post reads: “Yesterday we leaked a small database. Now we’re bringing out the big guns. […] Enjoy browsing. There's really a lot to it.”

According to the hackers, they gained access to Disney’s internal Slack messenger through an employee. According to a post on X by Pirat_Nation , the employee downloaded a file from the Modland website. It’s possible that by hijacking the session, the hackers could then compromise the messaging service using the corresponding cookies. This was suggested by an email from the attackers, which CNN has now obtained.

Leaks about projects that have not been proposed

The data pack contains all the messages and files from nearly 10,000 Slack channels. The exact contents of the leak are not yet known. However, according to Eurogamer, previously unreleased collaborations between Disney and game publisher Epic Games for its Fortnite game have been included. Details about an unreleased Alien Universe game have also already been found, which is supposed to be a successor to Aliens Fireteam Elite, which was released in 2021.

Hackers think they're right.

Members of the hacker collective NullBulge, who describe themselves as hacktivists, are responsible for the attack. They say they are fighting for artists’ rights and fair pay, especially in the age of artificial intelligence. “Disney was our target because of the way the company handles artist contracts, its approach to AI, and its blatant disregard for the consumer,” NullBulge said.

Disney has now confirmed the leak. According to a company spokesperson, the company is currently investigating the incident.
