F-35A damaged in fire


A US Air Force F-35A Joint Strike Fighter was forced to abort its sortie after it caught fire while attempting to take off from Florida Air Force base on Monday morning.

The fire erupted in the aft section of the aircraft, according to a US Air Force statement. The pilot immediately shutdown the engine and escaped unharmed.

The aircraft is assigned to the 33rd Fighter Wing at Eglin Air Force Base, which trains F-35 A/B/C Lightning II pilot and maintainer, for the Marine Corps, the Navy, the Air Force.

The incident comes nearly two weeks after a Russian Sukhoi T-50 stealth fighter prototype caught fire, as it descented for landing.


On June 13, F-35 test flights were temporarily halted for inspections of an oil flow management valve fitting inside the engine.

The Air Force variant F-35A is targeted to achieve Initial Operational Capability in August 2016.

Airbus A350 Completes Hot Weather Trials


Airbus A350 XWB flight test aircraft (MSN3) has completed hot weather testing in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. The tests checked the engines and aircraft systems at temperatures reaching above 40 degree.

The aircraft was  flight and ground tested, including heat soak tests. The airplane was left on the ground in the sun for several hours and checks later performed on various cooling systems.

Bombardier Resume CSeries Engine Ground Runs

Bombardier resumed engine-ground run trials on its CSeries CS100 flight test vehicles (FTVs) in Mirabel, Québec after an engine fire on FTV1 prototype on May 29 resulted in grounding of flight test fleet.

Lockheed Martin delivered the first of 36 4th generation Block 52 F-16 multi-role fighter jets to Iraqi Air Force on June from its facility Fort Worth.

“Iraq joins 27 other nations around the world who depend on the F-16 Fighting Falcon to maintain peace and security,” said Orlando Carvalho, executive vice president of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics.

This year, F-16 Fighting Falcon celebrates 40 years of evolution, with more than 4,540 aircraft delivered, and production is expected to run through 2017.

Bombardier said the sudden loss of power and uncontained failure of a Pratt & Whitney PW1500G Geared Turbofan (GTF) engine on the Bombardier CSeries test aircraft has been traced to the low pressure turbine (LPT).
